Woo-hoo! The weekend is nearly here, and it’s time to kick back with some SG-1 before Burn Notice… even though it means I’m missing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Oh well. The book’s better, anyways, so I’ll just read tonight.
But this is not about that wonderful series by J.K. Rowling! It’s about Bra’tac Teal’c Teal’c’s biceps Stargate SG-1! So I’ll just get back on topic now and hit “Play”.
The crew is on… um… I don’t think it’s Abydos, but the Abydosians are there, and so are Horus guards! And other Jaffa! And Sha’re! Oh, wait, it’s not Sha’re, it’s Amaunet, so… Um, anyways, apparently she has the child she and Apophis conceived.
Meanwhile, a firefight ensues between the SG teams and the Jaffa. They, unfortunately, seem to have the upper hand in most every respect.
Jackson rushes up to the tent in which Amaunet resides, and he asks where the boy is, and her reply is, “Where you and the System Lords will never find him.” Hm… That’s curious. Even with her husband dead she still insists on keeping her child safe. Maybe Sha’re’s influencing a little here..? She then uses her ribbon device on Daniel. Teal’c shows up (YEAH, TEAL’C! Oh wait I hate where this is going..!) and arms his staff weapon..!
Jackson wakes up in the infirmary and everyone looks on sympathetically. And Teal’c looks really guilty. Turns out that they had been there freeing Kasuf and the other Abydonians who’d been taken as slaves, and when Amaunet had used the ribbon device on Jackson, Teal’c was forced to fire upon her. He tries to tell Jackson he had no other choice (of course you didn’t, Teal’c) but Jackson isn’t buying it. He thinks that Sha’re could have fought it.
And now he’s pissed at Teal’c because everyone likes to blame Teal’c. Everyone. But I admit I’m a little upset that it’s DANIEL who’s all on his case. It’s like, “Dude! He just saved your life! Be at least a little grateful and know that he had no choice!” But perhaps more than that, I think he’s upset with himself that he couldn’t have done more.
He sleeps, and sees Amaunet using the ribbon device, but hears Sha’re say, “Hear me, Daniel,” and the scene changes to right after he wakes up in the infirmary again. However, he sees Sha’re alive and without the Goa’uld, thanks to some Tok’ra technology.
Hm… this seems far too good to be true.
Suddenly, she’s pulled away, and he wakes up once more in the original universe where she is dead. I knew it! Too good to be true! …But then what’s going on?
That night, he approaches General Hammond and hands him… his resignation.
Well, I suppose it only makes sense. He joined SG-1 in the first place solely (or primarily solely) to find Sha’re, and now that she’s dead, he feels there is no reason. He’s already set up a replacement, but O’Neill thinks he’ll be back in no time.
Don’t be so sure, Jack; don’t be so sure. I think it’ll be a long time before he can look Teal’c in the eyes again. Besides, all the archaeological wonders in the universe can’t replace long-lost love…
…But to be honest I’m pretty sure Jackson will be back, one way or another.
On his way out he runs into Teal’c, who wants to formally apologize and gain Jackson’s forgiveness, but Jackson won’t give it to him.
(Aww! Daniel! You can’t do that to him! You just need a hug! I’m sure Teal’c would give you one! But if you don’t want one I’ll take one for you!)
That night in his apartment, after embracing Carter and O’Neill goodbye earlier that day (YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN ABOUT HUGS?!), he falls asleep and dreams once again of Sha’re saying through the ribbon device, “Hear me, Daniel,” but what?! What does she want him to hear?!
In fact, he sees her lying beside him in bed, and she says he must rejoin SG-1 so he can “find the boy”, just as she told him in the first I’m-not-dead vision. She also says he must forgive Teal’c (DARN RIGHT! Listen to your wife when she’s talkin’ to you!).
And then she fades away…
The next day, Jackson presides over Sha’re’s funeral on Abydos, where (from the SGC) Fraiser, Hammond, Carter, and O’Neill are there, but no Teal’c. They bury her body, and Jackson speaks with Kasuf, who tells him that his “heart is still burdened” because he has not “heard her”. Hm… This feels awfully funny to me…
He then points off in the distance, where Jackson once again sees Sha’re. She tells him again, “You must forgive Teal’c… And together, you must find the boy.” I gotta give the woman credit, she knows what she’s saying. Kasuf then appears and says that the son is the “Keeper of Secrets”.
WHAT SECRETS?! WHAT?!
Oh, right, wait ten seconds…
Sha’re tells him that the boy contains all the knowledge of the Goa’uld, but when he asks how to find him, she’s once more wrenched away and he sees Amaunet with the ribbon device, and the words, “Hear me, Daniel.” This is getting creepy!
The following day, he goes to the SGC and needs to talk to Carter. Jackson’s replacement, Robert, isn’t exactly fitting in well. And then we have YAAAY because Jackson finally tells Teal’c, “You did the right thing.” Hurrah! Good goin’, Jackson! I knew you had it in you!
He talks to Carter about the ribbon device and he thinks that a thought could be sent through the device to the victim… maybe. He’s thinking Sha’re was trying to send him a message… about the boy?
He enters his apartment and sees Kasuf and O’Neill sitting in his apartment. Kasuf tries to convince Jackson to rejoin SG-1 to “find the boy”. Jackson opens a door and finds himself on the planet where Sha’re/Amaunet was killed. (Whoa, now this is just out-there!) She beckons him to her, to the tent, and once more sees the hand device and the words “Come to me, Daniel.”
He wakes up (wait, was that all a dream? Since what point!?) and goes back to the Cheyenne Mountain base. He goes to Teal’c and asks him about the offspring of two Goa’uld hosts. It turns out that the genetic memory of the Goa’uld is automatically passed on to their offspring, or harsesis, and is thus strictly forbidden.
Then why would Amaunet and Apophis have a son..?
But at least it seems like they’ve made up!
And then Jackson goes to General Hammond and says he’s back in SG-1! Yeah!
They go through the ‘Gate to a SUPER-FLOWERY PINK PLANET oh my god what is this, My Little Pony?
He suddenly dials back into the Stargate and goes to… some planet! What what?
Turns out Jackson went back to the planet they’d all fought on, and enters into Amaunet’s tent. (It’s still there?) Sha’re speaks to him and tells him he’s the only one who can save “the boy”, and that Amaunet has sent him into hiding with her closest aide. She says he’s on a world called “Kheb”, but she’s pulled away before she can tell him.
He, one more time, sees the hand device, and feels the gun drop, and sees Teal’c shoot Amaunet. This time, though, he goes over to her, and her last words are, “I love you, Daniel.”
Teal’c says, “I am sorry, Daniel Jackson.”
Daniel’s reply? “You did the right thing, Teal’c.”
As he so often does…
Final thoughts… HOLD ON JUST A DAD-GUM MINUTE!!
That was all a dream? The whole episode was just a dream? He was really just caught in the ribbon device the whole time? Man, I hate these kinds of plots! You’re like, “Oh, that was awesome and heart-wrenching and character-developing!” only to find out that it never really happened!
Ahem… That aside, it was really a pretty solid episode. I presume that most of this will actually occur (such as a temporary rift between Jackson and Teal’c, which I believe could remain at least for a short time… will be interesting to see what the writers do with that little tidbit; and also the funeral, et cetera) but not all. There’s also another interesting little twist: Amaunet and Apophis’ son, whom Jackson has more or less been tasked with saving.
Well, at least they weren’t exploiting kids this time…
But that still begs the question of why they would want a son, except perhaps to carry on Apophis’ symbiote? And now that he and the actual Goa’uld are dead, what’s her motivation?
Of course, I’m just happy that Teal’c and Jackson aren’t at odds (why would anyone want to be at odds with Teal’c?) but like I said, it’s an interesting twist. Also, now that he no longer has that direct connection to the Abydonians, will they still see them from time to time? I don’t see why not; after all, they were the first people the SGC ever encountered.
Great episode for character and plot development… If only it hadn’t all been a dream!
PREDICTION/REFLECTION THINGY
(BURN NOTICE IS AWESOME YEAAAAH)
Jackson: Uh, I thought we were the focus of this blog.
Carter: I guess not. She gets so distracted sometimes.
Teal’c: Perhaps if she were to write with a clearer mind…
O’Neill: Oh, for cryin’ out loud, she’s a teenager. What do you expect?
Marie: UGH there’s a commercial for Breaking Dawn: Part I on the TV! EW ROBERT PATTINSON! EW TWILIGHT! Needs more Chris Judge! And RDA! And Amanda Tapping! And Michael Shanks!
It’s not bra’tac at ALL!
Yep, this was one confusing episode the first time I saw it ... and the second time ...
ReplyDeleteIt does set things up for future episodes, though.
(Hmm, Burn Notice fan too, huh?)
The very first scene, to the point Teal'c enters the tent, and the last scene, from when Teal'c enters the tent--those happened. The rest was, well, maybe not a dream, but not reality either.
